Oxidation resistance

Purpose

The oxidation resistance is a parameter providing information on the behaviour of lubricant greases, which are exposed under static conditions to the influence of the atmosphere for a prolonged period, for example in thin layers on roller bearings and other machine parts. It provides no information on the storage stability of lubricant greases in commercial containers or on the oxidation resistance of lubricant greases under dynamic operating conditions.

Brief description of the method

The lubricant grease sample is oxidized at a pressure of 7.7 bar in the test instrument which is filled with oxygen at a pressure of up to 7.0 bar and then placed in a heating bath at 99°C. The fall of pressure after an agreed test duration is used as a criterion of the degree of oxidation.
