Purpose
The method according to this standard gives information on the duration of effectiveness of additives added to steam turbine and hydraulic oils for delaying ageing. Following the depletion of the additives, no conclusions can be drawn on the ageing properties of the basic oil from the results of the test.
Brief description of the method
The specimen mixed with destilled water is aged at 95°C in the simultaneous presence of steel and copper wire, accompanied by the introduction of oxygen. Ageing is monitored by determination of the neutralisation number at regular intervals. A neutralisation number of 2.0 mgKOH/g of oil or, if this has still not been reached after 1000 hours, the neutralisation number after 1000 hours is considered as the final ageing state.
