FZG (gear rig test machine)

Purpose

 

Testing of lubricants in the FZG gear rig test machine may used to determine the limiting stress capacity of lubricants (occurrence of scoring and grooves on the flanks of teeth) as well as  the change in the weight of the gear teeth.

 

Brief description of the method

 

With the lubricant to be tested, specific gear teeth run a constant speed and with an established initial lubricant temperature. The stress on the tooth flanks may be increased gradually. After completion of the test run or after each power stage in the case of testing in gradual steps (gravimetric method) the changes on the tooth flanks (flank demage) are recorded by description, photographs, roughness measurements or contrast print. Additionally the changes in weight of the test wheels may be determined.
