Emcor method

Purpose

 

The purpose of the test is to ascertain the degree of protection against corrosion provided by the lubricating grease to the anti-friction bearings, plain bearings and sliding surfaces in the presence of water under conditions approximating normal operating conditions.

 

Brief description of the method

 

The lubricating grease is tested in self-aligning ball bearings with the addition of water. After a given cycle of a given duration (running time) at a rotational speed of 80 min-1 without heating and without load application, and including a given stop period, the running tracks of the outer races of the test bearings are examined for corrosion.
